Top Predictions for the CPL Title this Season
Given the Canadian Premier League’s unique playoff structure, a club’s strong performance in the regular season may not accurately predict the side that will be crowned league champions. However, there are several clubs with obvious strengths and solid foundations that should be considered.
Forge FC
Although Forge finished the season in second place, they were one of the best sides you would have seen in the CPL. They did extremely well to both keep clean sheets and score goals, finishing with an average of 0.87 conceded per game and an average of 1.4 scored per game. Pacific FC
Pacific FC plays soccer that is among the best in their division. They move the ball from side to side well, waiting for opportunities to play decisive balls forward into opposition territory. Their ability to finish off games was documented in the 2025 season, finishing with the most goals scored at 50, an average of 1.67. Pacific conceded more goals at home than away, which suggests their overly aggressive approach in front of their fans. This makes Pacific a prime bet for the BTTS market.

Cavalry
Cavalry had an underwhelming season last term despite the early signs of hope. A base attack average of 1.21 goals per game was much lower than expected, and away from home they struggled to find the back of the net at all, averaging just 0.78 goals per away game. However, a solid defensive line-up ensured that Cavalry led the league for periods in the 2025 season. I believe that Cavalry will be stronger this year with a tighter defence line-up; nonetheless, they will need to increase their attack stats if they want to compete with Pacific and Forge in 2025.

The Top Goalscorer trophy is a lovely thing to win. Alas, I won it only once in the best of my years; but I did hold on to the number 9 shirt for my entire career, which was a feat in itself!
Marco Bustos
Pacific’s attacking midfielder, Bustos, had a good season last year; he could be an outside bet to win the team’s top-goalscorer award. Bustos ghosted into the box during the attack and was a very effective finisher. However, his role as a scorer may be altered if Pacific plays more defensively this season.
Joao Morelli
Joao Morelli was responsible for half (14) of HFX Wanderers FC’s 28 goals last season, a total that ranks second-best in the team behind Tomi Ameobi’s 15 tallies. The Brazilian is coming off a two-year stint in Dubai, and has shown he can score at this level. If HFX commits more men forward in attack and gives him more chances, he could average a goal per game, which would be among the best marks in the league.’
Terran Campbell
Terran has a solid goalscoring record at Pacific, which could be attributed to his talents for on-the-field awareness. This term, his move to Forge could prove fortuitous for the team and a loss for Pacific. I expect Terran to make Forge a legitimate title contender, and hopefully the striker will prove to be an astute acquisition by a side that is already well-staffed in attack. He could be devastating this year.
